... In a Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon and they go: “Surprised you didn’t think about the Chevrolet Cruze with the Turbo. Does 40 Miles and has the same power with this car.”
... Fuck.

Yeah but you can actually sell the Subaru for something someday, I assume the Cruze will be worth about $8 in a few years

Roughly 31-35 MPG average (with me being rough on the throttle most of the time/more than 30% throttle input.)

I had to verify this, but you’re right. I’m actually kind of surprised.

I thought they were joking as well, but no. Then again, I do have to account for the fact that my car does have two more drive wheels as well, so there’s that.

I’ll be honest, I think I might buy the chevy over the Subaru with a CVT. I had a rental Malibu back in early 2017 and I actually liked it more than I thought I would. I know they’re not the same car, but I would assume they’re close enough.

That’s pretty much one of the few complaints I have with the Impreza. I could live with the CVT, but Jesus.
On the other hand, if I had to sell the Chevrolet one day... I hope that the value is decent, otherwise I would end up regretting on getting the Chevrolet.

I assume yours is a manual then?
I really don’t consider resale value when I buy a car because my family is the type that keeps cars for a long time. Basically to the point where resale becomes negligible. Having the same car for 10 years isn’t unheard of.

... Automatic.
Still, I usually see value as something that shows whether or not a company could produce something they can truly put their name on. And it’s not a negligible thing if an emergency comes up/making room for a new car when the car itself is worth $0.

But symmetrical AWD bro. If you don’t have it in the Snowbelt you WILL LITERALLY DIE!

The proper response is, “Yeah I’m surprised you think a Chevy Cruz will last anywhere near the miles of a Subaru Impreza or have the fun factor, or the snow handling”.
Sorry I’m ruthless like that.

Meh, small Chevy’s have been cockroaches for at least the past two decades. They might not be great, but you won’t be able to kill them. Subaru’s reliability seems more and more like fanboy owners spending tons of money rebuilding the engine or replacing the gaskets instead of admitting defeat.

Ehh, there are some Subarus that are so stupid unkillable that I doubt diesel would do the job.

...don’t give Chevy anymore ideas for those “not actors” commercials.
I bet the next thing your friend is going to ask you about are JD Power awards.

Uhh, chevies are the opposite of cockroaches. Some of the engines barely male it through the powertrain warranty. Some of the trucks might be ok, but the cars - oddly enough the rebadged Daewoo-made Spark and Sonic are MORE reliable - especially the Malibu and impala have problem after problem, and excessive oil consumption is considered “normal”. Modern mass-market cars shouldn’t require owners to add a half-quart of oil every fuel fill-up. Performance cars sure, but not mass-market cars like the malibu, equinox, terrain, verano, captiva, etc.

I’d skip both and get a Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, non-DCT-equipped Ford, or Toyota instead. Heck, I’d get a Prius V before I would consider a chevy crude.

Crapalier got along due to longevity, and a relatively-large, understressed engine for the intended function. Parts were plentiful and cheap, because the cars were plentiful and cheap. Don’t see many of them around still.
Cobalts were even cheaper and crappier, and lacked the relatively-rugged strength the Cav had thanks to riding on ancient but strong bones, much like the Crown Victoria, Savanna/Express, Ranger, etc. They were safer and seemed to have better utilization of space (or, rather, they were actually bigger, since the Cav was small even for a “compact” in its final years). Doesn’t mean they weren’t massive heaps of rolling fecal matter.
